this week it happened to me while updating multiple plugins, it went totally wrong and the website no longer came out of maintenance mode. Logging in no longer works, direct access to WP admin does not work. Nothing. Only the message: “Temporarily unavailable due to planned maintenance. Try again in a few minutes. “
The solution for: “Temporarily unavailable due to planned maintenance. Try again in a few minutes. “
Fortunately, the problem is easier to solve than you might think. You just have to know. While starting updates, WordPress creates a file in the root of your website. This file is called “.maintenance”, and precisely that file ensures that your website goes into maintenance mode and stays there. If the update is interrupted, the .maintentance file will continue to exist and that is why your website thinks it is still working on an update and will therefore remain in maintenance mode.
To make your website available again, delete the .maintenance file from the root of your website via FTP and the problem is solved!
